Kostyantyn Yeliseyev: everything done toward Crimea deoccupation is result Poroshenko’s team effort

Volodymyr Zelensky’s claims that nothing was done before his presidency to de-occupy the Crimean peninsula are false and unfair both to Ukraine’s international partners, the Crimean Tatar people, and the team of the fifth president, said Poroshenko’s foreign policy adviser, Ukrainian diplomat Kostyantyn Yeliseyev.

“President Zelensky has directly stated that Crimean has been neglected before he came to power. Essentially, it amounts to a mockery of Ukrainian diplomats involved in the resolution of this issue and our Crimean Tatar patriots. It was a mockery our partners. Who slammed the sanctions? European Union and Americans. How about the famous Pompeo’s declaration? Let’s face facts,” Yeliseyev stressed.

“The first resolution on human rights, the first one in 2014, and then in 2015, and 2016… And then there was the next resolution on the militarization of Crimea. How about the use of international judicial structures? Recall just one decision of the UN International Court of Justice, which under the UN Convention on Racial Discrimination began a substantive consideration of this case against Russia, a permanent member of the UN Security Council,” reminded Yeliseyev.

“You may also recall Poroshenko working with Erdogan on the release of Crimean Tatars, including Chiygoz. That is, a lot has been done,” Kostyantyn Yeliseyev emphasizes.

“I would like to remind you that the Crimean Platform, the ideology of the Crimean Platform, was developed during Poroshenko’s presidency. In particular, this initiative was supported in the resolution of the European Parliament from 2017,” Yeliseyev went on.

“I would still advise diplomats to give the president some information and have him read it,” he said.

“I also ask the question: what has President Zelensky done in these almost two years to bring the de-occupation of Crimea closer? Did he slam additional sanctions on Russia? He did not even impose sanctions on Putin for the construction of the Kerch Bridge,” the diplomat said.

“The only thing he did was that the Prosecutor General’s Office opened a new case against Poroshenko on his instructions for ordering our ships to move from the port of Odessa to the port of Mariupol. Does he believe that he has thus brought the deoccupation of Crimea closer? ” Yeliseyev said.

The diplomat summarizes that such statements are a consequence of the complete unprofessionalism of the incumbent government: “if we follow this logic, the next statement of the president will be that” before my coming to power in Ukraine did not exist.”

“I hope the representatives of the Crimean Tatar people will issue a relevant statement on what has been done during the period from 2014 to 2019. When they say that no one dealt on Crimean issue  before Zelensky, or that the Crimean issue was put on the forefront thanks to Zelensky, it is absolute, I will put is undiplomatically, lies and untruth,” Yeliseyev states.
