The Verkhovna Rada must urgently consider a bill on amendments to the Law on the Electricity Market to extend the powers of the regulator, stated by the MP Mykhailo Bondar (European Solidarity).
“Regarding the energy security of our country, we call on the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to include in the agenda a bill amending the Law on the Electricity Market to extend the powers of the regulator and immediately put it to a vote,” Bondar said.
He considers the import of Russian and Belarusian electricity is in fact a betrayal of Ukraine’s interests.
“We have repeatedly raised the issue. Meanwhile, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Fuel and Energy and Housing and Communal Services has not met and is unwilling to resolve the problems in the energy sector. My colleagues and I insisted that the members of the committee support Bill № 4493 and immediately provide an opportunity for the National Commission for Regulation of Economic Competition to regulate on the issue of electricity imports. Instead, we heard the head of the National Commission for Regulation of Economic Competition stating in the walls of the parliament that “whatever laws you, dear people’s deputies, pass, we still reserve the opportunity to import and settle this issue at our discretion,” Bondar said.
He called on the head of the Security Service of Ukraine to pay attention to such statements of the head of the National Commission for Regulation of Economic Competition and to give them a proper assessment.
