The fifth President of Ukraine, Chairman of the European Solidarity Petro Poroshenko held a conversation with the President of the European People’s Party, former President of the European Council Donald Tusk.
Among the key issues for discussion there were Russia’s escalation of the situation in Donbas and the ways to counter the Kremlin’s aggressive plans.
Petro Poroshenko expressed gratitude to the European People’s Party for its long-term unwavering support of Ukraine in restoring sovereignty and territorial integrity. The fifth president highly appreciated the EPP`s recent statements in support of Ukraine and thanked the party’s political group for its initiative to organize a debate in the European Parliament next week on the situation in Ukraine and security threats from Russia.
Petro Poroshenko called on European partners to consider strengthening economic and sectoral sanctions against Russia, including their synchronization with recent US sanctions and closure of the politically motivated Nord Stream-2 project, deploying a UN peacekeeping contingent in the occupied parts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and providing Ukraine with the NATO Membership Action Plan and the European perspective.
The leader of European Solidarity also called on the EPP to actively support Ukraine’s initiative to establish a Crimean platform.
The parties coordinated actions to jointly counter the destructive consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. Petro Poroshenko presented a new comprehensive anti-COVID strategy of “European Solidarity” and called on European partners to help Ukraine get a sufficient number of high-quality vaccines.
Petro Poroshenko and Donald Tusk discussed the situation in the common neighborhood region – Moldova and Belarus.
