The Fifth President of Ukraine and leader of the European Solidarity Party, Petro Poroshenko, met with the Special Envoy of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany to Ukraine on Decentralization, Good Governance and Public Services, Georg Milbradt.
Petro Poroshenko noted the importance and exactitude of the steps taken in 2017 to appoint a Special Commissioner within the Government of Germany to help Ukraine with decentralization.
“I am deeply grateful to Chancellor Merkel for her support in this matter,” said the fifth President of Ukraine. The efficacity of the decentralised approach has been tested over time and its results have been proven.
Emphasis during the talks was placed on the need to continue the movement towards decentralizing following the European best practices and ensuring the longevity of this process, avoiding slippage or sabotage at any level of government. Completing this reform will require real political leadership.
“It’s not just about the success of a particular reform. This is a question of Ukraine’s European integration, “Petro Poroshenko stressed. He affirmed that “European Solidarity” will stand firm on strengthening the principles of local self-government in Ukraine.
Important attention was paid to the situation in Donbas and to resolving it by political and diplomatic means, as well as the importance of strengthening international unity and solidarity with Ukraine to restore the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state, including Crimea.
