Iryna Gerashchenko: “European Solidarity” will not permit exchanging Donbass for Crimea

Statements by representatives of the Office of President Zelensky about the possible “exchange” of Crimea for Donbass, and certain conditions for water supply to the occupied peninsula, are unacceptable. Iryna Gerashchenko, co-chair of the European Solidarity faction, said this on the Pryamiy TV channel.

“The ‘Zelensky government’ and the ‘Ze team’ are constantly talking about making preparations for the Crimean platform. And in this press release (concerning the telephone conversation between Biden and Zelensky) there was also an exchange that discussed the holding of a Crimean platform, and that the United States supported it. But now today there is a statement from Bankova that Ukraine would change its position on water supply to Crimea if Russia changed its position and either stops firing on the Donbas or withdraws its troops from the Donbas, ” Gerashchenko said.

“We strongly oppose such a position. European Solidarity stands for the following: It will never be possible to exchange Crimea for Donbass. Both Crimea and Donbass are integral. The liberation of Crimea and Donbas, the demilitarization of Crimea and Donbas must take place. There must be a complete withdrawal of the occupying power, the occupying forces from the Crimea – and only after that will the water supply resume there,” Gerashchenko emphasized.

She also said that “European Solidarity” is currently preparing a relevant resolution in the Verkhovna Rada.

“We will not allow Crimea to be exchanged for Donbass. Imagine the chaos, the unprofessionalism in Bankova’s mind, if her advisers let her make such statements on the eve of the Crimean platform, that if Russia stops firing a little, calms down a bit, that we can resume water supplies to Crimea,” Gerashchenko stated indignantly.

“What is the Crimean platform then? Where is our strategy for the de-occupation of Crimea? Are we just pretending for those invited? This is not show business. We believe that there should be a very firm position from the Ukrainian authorities on the de-occupation of Crimea and Donbas. And the same goes for Nord Stream-2,” Gerashchenko said.

“Unfortunately, we are witnessing such unprofessionalism. This statement demonstrates the chaos and mess in Bankova’s head, when she encourages people to allow themselves to make similar assumptions that it would be possible to exchange Crimea for Donbass,” the co-chairman of faction stated.

“European Solidarity is today reacting harshly to these attempts, these tests, these plans, because we have already received thousands of calls from the Crimean Tatars, from the Crimean people, who are witnessing the occupation and believe that Ukraine should bring de-occupation closer with every step. And not to help the occupier, including through water supply,” Iryna Gerashchenko said.

“We are proud that in our party we have leaders of the Crimean Tatars such as Mustafa Dzhemilev and Akhtem Chiygoz. And today they reacted angrily on behalf of the Crimean Tatar people for such assumptions. In general, the fact that Crimean Tatar leaders today are cut off from the Crimean platform, that anyone can comment on Crimea today, but rarely competent people, or those that have authority on the matter, says a lot about the unprofessional foreign policy of this current government,” Iryna Gerashchenko summarized.
