The Chaus story is a gloomy comic with a “grandpa in shorts.” A column by Rostyslav Pavlenko, a People’s Deputy from the European Solidarity faction, was featured the Ukrainian Pravda publication.
Of course, many memes that jump out of almost every second page on social networks are so witty that they cause raucous laughter. But this really isn’t funny. Because these are serious crimes, and not just one, committed this year.
We see, just from the facts on the surface:
Kidnapping (Articles 146 and 146-1 of the Criminal Code);
Organization of illegal border crossing (Article 332);
Abuse of authority, issuance and execution of deliberate criminal orders by officials (Article 426-1);
Non-execution of a court decision (Article 382), according to which the SBU was obliged to transfer Chaus to NABU by virtue of jurisdiction, etc.
Lawyers can correct this list, narrow it or expand it, but kidnapping (kidnapping) is considered one of the most serious crimes in the world, especially when it was committed not by the “mafia” but by high-ranking officials of a Central or even Eastern European country.
While Zelensky’s office, police and SBU, the Central Intelligence Agency and the Foreign Intelligence Service, as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are only confusing the investigation, the truth has already been established by Moldovan law enforcement agencies.
According to their official reports, Chaus was abducted on the territory of this Ukrainian ally by Ukrainian diplomats, representatives of military intelligence and other special services.
Not only was the action itself (it is impossible to call it an “operation”) criminal in nature, but it was also carried out extremely unprofessionally, with many clues left that allowed the Moldovan side to quickly unravel this mystery.
Importantly, in Moldova, the police, the prosecutor’s office and the parliamentary commission of inquiry have come to the same conclusions, which reinforces their objectivity and lack of political bias.
Chaus is not a hero. From what is reported about it – there is no way to consider him as such.
But whatever the judge’s reputation, whatever the NABU’s claims against him are, his abduction in Moldova is a criminal offense.
Moreover, the issue of his extradition was considered in accordance with international procedures, and with a high degree of probability it would end up that Moldova would expel the Ukrainian judge to his homeland. It is quite legal and civilized. But it is now in the hands of NABU, which is investigating corruption deals, in which it accuses Chaus.
But the Ukrainian authorities were obviously interested in something else. In anticipation of the premiere of the blockbuster “Wagner” documentary produced by Bellingcat, one of the heroes of this film lost his temper. Who, you may ask?
Spies and diplomats couldn’t have acted on their own initiative, nor did they come out of the blue and steal a man from the territory of our friendly country, where a president is pro-Europe and anti-Putin.
The order could only have been given to them personally by the President of Ukraine. Or maybe, under the guise of his name, someone who, bypassing the Constitution, was proclaimed the uncrowned “vice president.” However, they themselves claim that they have already become one entity.
Let’s pay attention to some chronological details.
It was only in March that it was rumoured that a Bellingcat investigation into the failure of a special operation to detain the Wagner agents was about to be released.
The act of kidnapping took place on April 3. The causal link here is clear, and Chaus was expected to receive compromising information, not so much on Poroshenko, as on the former head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence, Vasyl Burba.
Observers who comment on Chaus’s abduction (and most interpret this as abduction) usually explain Zelensky’s desire to find something out about Poroshenko. Zelensky has such a mania, and his despair can be understood: The number of cases he has launched against him has exceeded a hundred, and he has been digging for information on his predecessor for a third year, and yet there is still nothing.
Burba was allegedly involved in Chaus’ escape from Ukraine in 2016. This is the fantasies of the authorities. In reality, Burba is a professional spy whose exploits have not yet ended.
Colonel-General Burba is one of the leaders of the potentially most successful operation in the history of the secret services, which was to bring to justice a large group of war criminals from Putin’s private army, Wagner. But it did not happen. And unlike you and me, he knows exactly who thwarted the operation, and who leaked information to the Union State of Russia and Belarus, who “warned Lukashenko,” and therefore Putin.
Thus, it is Burba who is the main witness of treason in the top leadership of Ukraine, which took place at the end of July 2020. And the traitors are ready to do anything to destroy him, if not physically, then morally, or just with fake accusations to put behind bars.
The abduction of Mykola Chaus and all subsequent events only demonstrate the unscrupulousness of the current government and their attempt at any cost to divert public attention and avoid responsibility for the downfall of the Wagner special operation.
And the unexpected “appearance” of the ex-judge in the Vinnytsia region and the action-packed chase in Kyiv is a diversion from the abduction. After all, the authorities are afraid of an objective investigation. That is why she is so afraid to hand the judge over to NABU.
There, deprived of the “guardianship” of the SBU, Chaus will probably confirm the story of his abduction. A story that has already been investigated in Moldova, but which most of the oligarchic media hid from Ukrainians at Zelensky’s request, because all the oligarchs with their money, channels and guts are in his team.
In Chaus’s case, as in Wagnergate, lies became the main instrument of power. At first, pure objection, as they say, deny all responsibility. And then, when that doesn’t work, use false explanations and fantastical versions.
Chaus’s abduction, like the Wagnerian affair, is part of the same chain. Their connection is visible to the naked eye, so the temporary commission of inquiry of the Verkhovna Rada should consider this story as a whole. After all, in a situation involving law enforcement, only the parliament can put an end to this story, which has disgraced Ukraine before the world and destroyed friendly relations with its partner countries.
After all, if our country condemns the Russia for subversive actions on our territory, then by what right does the government allow itself to commit subversive acts on the territory of an allied country?
PS – And just in case, it seems, Zelensky wrote a law on impeachment, which would be better called the law on the impossibility of impeachment.
