The world can no longer have any illusions that there is something of democracy in Russia’s DNA – authoritarian blood flows there. This was said by Oleksandr Kwasniewski, the President of Poland in 1995-2005, who was a guest of the European Economic Congress in Katowice. According to the Polish publication Super Express, Kwasniewski together with the fifth President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko outlined the scenarios for Ukraine and the world for the coming months and years. Both insist: freezing the war is categorically unacceptable neither for Ukraine nor for the world.
“Freezing the war will not stop Putin. He will gain time and set a new goal, no one should have any illusions about this,” says Petro Poroshenko.
In turn, Oleksandr Kwasniewski emphasized that the position of the united world, which promised Ukraine support in the field of ammunition, missile systems and defense systems, will be of key importance.
“The West must keep its word and Ukraine must receive these supplies, because it is preparing its offensive, and we must help. Because it will be another manifestation of solidarity with the Ukrainian people,” the ex-president of Poland emphasizes.
He explains – it will also send a clear signal to Putin, who may finally be told that Russia is simply losing this war and it’s time to accept it.
“Ukraine is fighting not only for itself against Russia. Ukraine is fighting not only for our democratic, European values. It should be said that, to a large extent, Ukraine is fighting, unfortunately, instead of us. Replaces us in this fight. And if it weren’t for Ukraine, this struggle would have to be continued – perhaps in the Baltic countries as well,” Kwasniewski noted.
When asked when the war in Ukraine will end, Poroshenko said: the complete deputinization of the West, further tough sanctions against Russia and the transfer of Putin and other Russian war criminals to an international tribunal are necessary.
“Deputinization should take place on the continent, in Germany, France, as well as in Poland, because everyone should understand that Putin knows no other language than the language of power. We will help Europe in deputinization, that is what we are fighting for in this war,” Poroshenko emphasizes.
Kwasniewski added that the end of the war should be peace on terms determined by Ukraine. “No one should decide the terms of peace for Ukraine. Ukraine decides when it wants to start these negotiations and under what conditions. Whatever the negotiations, the main, leading role in the development of this plan should remain in Ukraine. We have to support it,” the former president of Poland emphasizes.
