Petro Poroshenko said on Al Jazeera TV that the summit in Saudi Arabia is an important initiative to put pressure on Russia, and the key prerequisite for peace negotiations can only be the restoration of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders.
“How to encourage Russia to do this? First, we have one of the best diplomats in the world who is extremely effective in negotiating with Russia. And the name of this diplomat is the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the fifth President noted.
“And the second tool for peace is sanctions. If we cut Russian cash flow, Russian exports, to limit the ability to finance the war, that will be another important thing. “Saudi Arabia is a key player in the oil market, it has an extremely effective tool in its hands,” states Poroshenko.
“We are not only talking about the West. We are talking about the global South and the global East and Asia, they are also involved in this global crisis due to Russian aggression. I am very happy that Saudi Arabia as a regional leader is succeeding in inviting India, inviting Brazil. I heard that China also accepts the invitation and will participate in these consultations. This is extremely important,” Petro Poroshenko emphasized.
“I really hope that as a result of this summit we will have a communique that will put pressure on Russia to stop the war. This is a war not only against Ukraine, not only against Europe. This is a war against the whole world. Because now, due to Russia’s blockade of Ukraine’s Black Sea ports, Ukrainian grain, 400 million people in their countries are starving. Now, because of Russia, the price of grain as the main food product is rising by 15 percent. It worsens the lives of the least developed nations, the poorest in the world. And the role of Saudi Arabia and the guests of the summit would certainly be very important,” Petro Poroshenko summarized.
