Poroshenko met with the new German Ambassador and emphasized that Ukraine’s membership in NATO is the only effective security guarantee

Petro Poroshenko held a meeting with the newly appointed German Ambassador to Ukraine Martin Jaeger. As the fifth President reported on Facebook, he discussed with the German diplomat the issue of Ukraine’s integration into the EU and NATO, the critical importance of continuing reforms and the importance of external and internal unity as a determining factor in confronting the aggressor.

“I am glad to have a frank and constructive conversation with the newly appointed German Ambassador to Ukraine, Martin Jaeger. I congratulated Mr. Ambassador on the beginning of his diplomatic mission in our country and expressed gratitude for Germany’s firm support for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine for many years,” said the fifth President of Ukraine.

“I especially noted Berlin’s important and comprehensive assistance to our state, in particular political, military and financial. We have felt the friendly shoulder of allied Germany since the first days of the unprovoked full-scale Russian invasion, for which Ukraine is extremely grateful,” Poroshenko emphasized.

“The integration of Ukraine into the EU and NATO was discussed separately. He emphasized that there is no alternative to Ukraine’s movement through NATO membership, which is the only effective guarantee of security for Ukraine and the continent as a whole,” he said.

“We discussed the situation in Ukraine and emphasized the importance of internal unity, which is and remains decisive in resisting the aggressor and supporting our state. They noted the critical need to continue the reform in the field of decentralization, which at one time was initiated with the direct support of Germany,” Poroshenko also emphasized.

Petro Poroshenko and Martin Jaeger agreed on further contacts and coordination.
