The Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Verkhovna Rada received a unique invitation to hold a joint meeting with the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Bundestag, but the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Stefanchuk, did not agree to this mission. Iryna Gerashchenko, co-chair of the “European Solidarity” faction, announced this.
“In the spring of 2022, it was the German parliamentarians who changed the government’s position regarding the supply of weapons to the Armed Forces. This was preceded by our great work, personal meetings, communication, advocacy, and now we have real friends in the Bundestag. Today, Ukraine is disappearing from the columns of the German media, the main attention is on the events in Israel and the Gaza. We need to fight for support, military and financial, without which Ukraine cannot survive now,” Gerashchenko warns.
“Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Stefanchuk did not agree to the committee’s mission. Although this exchange is in the approved calendar plan of our work. But Stefanchuk demands an official invitation from the speaker of the Bundestag, saying what is the committee and who is its chairman. The situation is similar with the visit to our colleagues from the specialized committee of the European Parliament. Stefanchuk demands an invitation from Roberta Metzola,” the deputy writes.
“Social elevators brought to the very top people who have no idea what a parliament is and how important parliamentary committees are in European countries. Without an idea about the norms of protocol and political culture. Even today, these individuals are asserting themselves, destroying parliamentarism in Ukraine, humiliating and discrediting it every day,” Iryna Gerashchenko notes.
“It’s time for international journalists to take comments from Mr. Merezhko and members of the Foreign Affairs Committee about what our once most influential parliamentary committee has turned into,” Gerashchenko is convinced.
