Petro Poroshenko, who participates in the Ukraine-NATO Interparliamentary Council in Brussels, at all meetings convinces his partners of the need to speed up Ukraine’s membership in the North Atlantic Alliance.
“Today, our delegation started very busy work at the NATO headquarters, meetings were held with Deputy Secretary General of NATO Mircha Joane, deputy for Political Affairs Boris Ruge, and a huge number of parliamentarians,” Poroshenko told reporters.
“We calculated together with the president of the NATO PA that we have five months and two weeks left before the NATO summit in Washington. The date of the summit has been determined and the preparation must be of high quality. The key position is that an invitation to Ukraine to NATO should be announced in Washington, and this process should begin. And this will demonstrate that the world does not depend on Putin’s ultimatums,” Poroshenko emphasizes.
“Politicians of democratic states of NATO member countries will be forced to support Ukraine’s membership in NATO. And this should be done already because, in most of these countries, elections will be held in 2024. We definitely cannot ignore it,” Poroshenko is convinced.
“We have to work with the citizens of all member countries so that they understand that this is not aid to Ukraine, it is an investment in their future. That if you do not stop Putin in Ukraine, tomorrow a Russian soldier will knock on the door of each of you. Even if you imagine that Ukraine loses, it will be the beginning of the Third World War,” explains the fifth President.
“We discussed with the deputies and with NATO the possibility of joint production, taking into account private funds, products of the military-industrial complex on the territories of Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, and other neighboring states. There is a lot of interest. I will hope that upon our return we will still be able to force the government to hold these negotiations, propose investment cooperation positions, and insure against both military and political risks. So that we can quickly bring in ammunition from safe production sites in NATO member states at the borders,” Poroshenko says.
He explained that it is NATO that will organize an “umbrella” to protect the military-industrial complex of Ukraine in joint production with our partners.
“We set priorities. This is ammunition. The priority is to deliver the F-16 to the coalition as soon as possible. The priority is EW and radio intelligence to counter Russian unmanned aerial vehicles. Intelligence is a priority, of course. The production of artillery ammunition and mines is also a component,” Petro Poroshenko emphasizes.
“First of all, we now have to build a system of fortifications, and minefields, purchase, and import today a sufficient number of anti-tank mines to save Ukrainian soldiers. We should not make “meat assaults”. Because this is the only resource that is not renewable. We differ from Russians and Zhukov, who said “Women will give birth to more soldiers.” – remarks Poroshenko.
“I had very interesting negotiations with the representatives of Estonia and Lithuania, I think we will be able to present the program, which in Lithuania is called “Save Soldier”. This means that each soldier has an electronic warfare dome to protect him from kamikaze drones, a night vision monocular to see who is approaching him, when, and how, and the appropriate laser devices to dramatically increase the density of fire and the accuracy of fire. We exchanged these ideas to preserve and protect the lives of Ukrainian soldiers, the Ukrainian soldier,” says Petro Poroshenko.
