Co-chair of the “European Solidarity” faction Iryna Gerashchenko and People’s Deputy Iryna Friz in Kharkiv visited the burnt-out printing house destroyed by the Russian invaders.
“There is still a strong smell of fire in the burning place of the Factor-Druk typography. The printing house, created 28 years ago, supplied 30% of Ukrainian printing capacity,” Iryna Gerashchenko showed photos from the scene of the tragedy.
“Not only a very professional, but also a brave team works here. Irina Frize and colleagues from the printing press today recalled how in 2002-2004 they were almost the only ones in the whole country who agreed to publish the newspaper of the opposition “Nasha Ukraina” of V. Yushchenko. It was almost a detective story of the secret night printing of opposition newspapers and leaflets,” the deputy recalls.
“The history of typography is the history of the latest Ukrainian book, which was published by the team under the most difficult conditions, during blackouts, rocket attacks, and blackouts. The employees of the printing house are specialized specialists, of whom there are few in the country. And this terrible attack is a blow to book publishing and the industry,” Gerashchenko emphasizes.
As you know, 7 workers of the typography died, 9 are still in the hospital, 2 are in a very serious condition.
“The employees of the printing house told us a very poignant story. Their colleague, Mrs. Tetiana, one of the best typographers and bookbinders, fed the cat Maruska, who lived in the workshop. At the time of the attack, Mrs. Tetiana was working on a book about saving animals, Maruska was sitting next to her at the window. Mrs. Tatyana died in the fire, Maruska survived…. And the team of the printing house has an idea – to issue a postage stamp with a girl and a cat, in memory of their dear colleagues who were killed by Russia… We will try to help in the implementation of this idea”, – writes Iryna Gerashchenko.
