People’s Deputy from the “European Solidarity” faction Oleksiy Honcharenko, who is currently in Strasbourg at the PACE session, called on the Rules Committee of the Council not to adopt a decision that would destroy the unity of the Ukrainian parliament and the state’s reputation before European partners.
“What do we have, persecution of the opposition and we want to join the European Union with this? We want to be in the Council of Europe with this? We want European integration and NATO membership with this? This will never happen. Such decisions, such ideas, such even discussions destroy Ukraine’s European perspective. You all need to understand this,” Honcharenko was indignant.
“I have never raised domestic Ukrainian and domestic political issues abroad. Because abroad, all Ukrainians should be united and fight for the state. I have always done so. But if you came to us with the idea that the only way to protect the rights of the opposition and democracy in our state will be to appeal to international partners and European institutions, well, we will definitely do it. But who will benefit from this?”, – asked Honcharenko.
“Therefore, I appeal to you – please come to your senses, do not make a mistake. This mistake will cost you dearly. And in the future, do not even consider the issue of taking away the floor from a representative of the opposition. This will hit Ukraine even worse than some Russian missiles. There, at least our Armed Forces of Ukraine can protect us from this, but here, no one will be able to protect us from this shame and problems. This is my appeal to you – I really hope that you will hear it,” – emphasized Honcharenko.
