The position of the EuroNEST Assembly on Ukraine is frank. Here is a brief list of the most critical points of the resolutions adopted today in Yerevan.
So: full support for the fight against the Russian occupiers, calls on European institutions to provide all possible financial and military assistance, strengthen sanctions and stop trade with the terrorist country, especially to control the supply of goods for Russian weapons through third countries, and immediately strengthen the fight against racist propaganda and cyberattacks.
The Assembly called for the immediate start of negotiations with Ukraine on accession to the European Union, despite the resistance of Hungary.
At the same time, the Assembly called on the Ukrainian authorities to support democracy, human rights, and parliamentary pluralism, to develop democratic institutions, to support the functioning of independent media, political opposition, anti-corruption bodies, and civil society activists on the way to the effective opening of the first chapter of negotiations with the EU on fundamentals based on the Copenhagen criteria. It called on them to refrain from actions that undermine civic and political unity, to lift all restrictions on free parliamentary diplomacy, and to reform the judicial and law enforcement systems per EU requirements.
Moreover, the Assembly noted that financial assistance will depend on the recipients’ respect for the rule of law, democratic institutions, and fundamental rights.
To summarize briefly, they will support us, but they will not look the other way. And in the event of a departure from the listed values, it will be like with the Georgian authorities: all contacts and programs with them are frozen. And this is a direct signal to our authorities, especially in light of recent events.
