Sofia Fedyna: Parliament must finally have its say on the Mindich tapes

Sofia Fedyna, a People’s Deputy from the “European Solidarity” faction, stated during a parliamentary discussion on a draft law regarding public procurement that the country’s supreme legislative body must finally have its say regarding the high-profile “Mindichgate” investigation.

“Parliament should finally have its say on the Mindich tapes. You managed to silence [us/everyone] six months ago when this all came to light, even though parliamentarians were already shocked by the scale of the embezzlement.

Today, we are witnessing a continuation of this case. A continuation after the ‘hundreds’ here and there embezzled at energy facilities, the ‘two’ sent to Moscow, and today we have 311 billion [going] to a private company associated with Mindich,” Fedyna noted.

“Today we are in a situation where systemic schemes of embezzling the money of Ukrainians have become public through public procurement. A system, a grand scheme, on how to steal money from one process or another, including defense, into private pockets to invest it in luxury buildings at the ‘Dynastia’ residential complex. The tapes now show how nearly 1.5 million dollars were discussed to freeze construction because we need to wait a year. Wait a year for what? For Ukrainians to forget this scandal? For it to be covered up by other cases? Wait a year so that our Western partners won’t monitor us? Or wait a year for the Moscow federation to come here so the ruling elite can steal without restraint?” the People’s Deputy indignantly asked.

“We are talking about public procurement. So let us finally publicly discuss how the President’s inner circle and closest friends are stealing money from the energy and defense sectors.

They are stealing blood money because there isn’t enough for Ukraine to survive, to provide for the well-being of our children, for internally displaced persons, and, ultimately, to provide funds to the families of the fallen. If we remain silent about all this in Parliament now, then Ukraine truly has no future. I am appealing to all parliamentarians: remember that you are People’s Deputies, not deputies of the President’s Office. Remember your agency. Parliament must have its say,” urged Sofia Fedyna.
